Since Yahoo Geocities will be closing up for good pretty soon, I was supposed to revamp my website. However, that is not working out so well because I just don't have time to build one. I guess life was a lot less busy for me during my college years back in 2002 even though it felt busy at that time! lol. Instead of building a new website, I decided to transfer the content to this blog instead and will be adding new content as well...so that's all the update for now.

Thanks Aaron for emailing me your wonderful story. I will share this to the world so people can read about your wonderful deed:

I was on duty one night it the Security Centre of a military base when one of the Corporals came in and told me there was a hamster outside in the corner by the door.  By the way, it was minus 10 degrees Celsius with a high wind.

 

I went outside and sure enough there she was huddled in the corner obviously desperate to get out of the bitter cold and wind.  Without thinking I picked her up and brought her inside - she was nearly dead and apart from her breathing there was no response at all.  I held her in the palms of my hands to warm her up and in about half an hour she began to move.  I found a small box and put a lot of toilet paper in it and put down a bottle cap of water and gave her some rye bread from my lunch. 

 

To cut a long story short I brought her home, got a nice two story, ‘apartment,’ (cage) and a running wheel and a siphon drinking bottle.  Inside a few days she was walking willingly onto my hand to be picked up and I have never come across a more gentle animal in all my life.

 

My wife fell in love with her and now, “Michelle Holly,” is very much a part of our family.  She’s bright, intelligent and very, very affectionate and not once has she ever tried to nip our fingers.

 

I didn’t know a thing about hamsters and it was a friend who told us what she is!  But I seem to have made all the right moves as me, my wife and Michelle are a very happy family.

 

Isn’t life a wonderful thing?

I had many emails about this:

How would I know if my hamster is pregnant?

The gestation period for the hamster is 16 days from the time of mating. About 10 days from the time of mating, the female hamster should show signs of her being pregnant. So, how can you tell?

Okay, to better illustrate this; let’s use a human female for example. A pregnant woman do gain weight and the biggest area would be her belly, which is different from a heavy woman where fat is distributed pretty much evenly. From my experience, this is the same for hamsters. A pregnant hamster looks wide at the belly when you flip her over and the belly feels harder. In addition, her nipples will be more visible than normal. When the belly gets bigger, you can actually feel the movement of her pups inside. I know I did. On the other hand, a fat hamster is soft. The belly is soft and not stretchy looking... if that makes any sense! Lol. The pink feet are also thicker.

As you all know, after all my hamsters passed away, I dedicated an entire website to them! I am a big believer of not forgetting any pets after they passed on. This post is a Hamster Memorial Blog where people can post about their deceased hamster within the comments section. It’s very sad when our special friends pass on (the pain will never really go away, it just decreases over time)…let the world know about them, this way, they will always be remembered! I will start with mine...they were all my adorable hamsters that I had over the years before my dog.
